Claudia Witt and colleagues from the Institute of Social Medicine, Epidemiology and Health Economics at the Charite University in Berlin organised an expert conference onhomeopathy research on the 7th and 8th of March. The aim of the meeting was to promote an interdisciplinary exchange of information on research in homeopathy and to formulate recommendations for future research. The chosen format was explicitly interdisciplinary in the sense that the following five distinct areas were addressed and represented: history of homeopathy, homeopathic drug provings, clinical/epidemiological studies, case based research and basic research. On each of the five research themes mentioned above there was a short plenary presentation which focused the attendants on the topic. These plenary presentations were followed by work in small groups consisting of delegates from each of the five subareas as well as by at least one practicing homeopathic physician. The aims of the work in the smaller group were (A) to identify the main problems in that particular topic/theme and (B) to make recommendations on how these problems could/should be addressed. The problems and suggested recommendations were discussed at the end in a plenary session, to identify those problems and recommendations on which there is a broad consensus. The results of this conference will be published in due course in book form (in the English language) by the Carstens Foundation, which also sponsored the whole event.
